Muenster Cheese

Muenster cheese is a mild, smooth textured semi-soft cheese made from cow's milk. It originated in the Alsace region of France near the German border. When young, Muenster has a subtle flavor but when aged develops a stronger, nuttier taste yet is still milder compared to most cheeses. It melts well and is often used in grilled cheese sandwiches or casseroles. The rind is thin, wrinkled and orange-red from being washed during ripening.
